Biographical Sketch of Enoch J. Cathcart

ENOCH J. CATHCART was born April 25, 1849, in Giles County, Tenn.; his parents are Allen J. and Eliza J. (Head) Cathcart, both natives of Tennessee. The father was a blacksmith and wagon-maker; his death occurred about the year 1851; he was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The mother died in November, 1875, aged forty-nine; she was also a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. These parents had seven children, five of whom are now living. Enoch J. began quite early in life for himself. Farming has chiefly been his business; he settled near Kirkmansville; he sold out there in 1883, and came to his present location-Bivinsville-and opened out a store and was appointed Postmaster; he keeps a full stock of general merchandise such as is usually kept in a country store. By his courteous manner, obliging disposition and fair dealing he has built himself up a large and increasing trade. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South for nine years, and formerly acted in an official capacity in the church of his choice; he is now a member of the Masonic fraternity.
