Cove, Union County, Oregon
Albert G. Conklin, widely known pioneer of eastern Oregon, passed away at his home in Cove, Oregon, March 22, 1921, after prolonged illness, which finally terminated in heart trouble.
Left to mourn his loss are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Bessie C. Lay and three sons, Albert, Philip and Thomas.
Impressive funeral services were conducted at the Ascension Episcopal church of Cove by Rev. Chas. H. Powell, of Salem. Beautiful music was rendered b a double quartette composed of Mrs. Leonard Towle, Miss Hazel Duncan, Mrs. Laird, Mrs. Gane, Messrs. Kaufman, Rowe, Thos. Gardner and Antles; Mae Stearns, violinist and Mrs. Thos. Towle, organist.
Acting as pall bearers were Messrs. Lund, Duffy, Richards, Lorenz, Duncan and Bell.
The many handsome floral offerings attested the high esteem in which Mr. Conklin was regarded by the community, for he was always looking on the bright side of life and was ever ready with a cheerful smile and helping hand.
Albert George Conklin was born at Westernville, N. Y., youngest of twelve children. Of these only one sister is living, Mrs. Mary Butterfield, of Kalispel, Mont., mother of Mrs. H. C. Rees, of Union.
His early life was spent near his birthplace, where he married Miss Jennie Quackenbush. To this union three children were born, Bessie, Edith and Alfred, the two latter passing away in early youth.
Obeying the call of the west, the family moved to Iowa where his wife died. In 1887 he moved to Cove, Oregon, and became actively engaged in fruit raising, which industry he followed until his death.
In 1893 he married Mrs. Fannie Conley, of Grand Island, Neb., who was teaching in the Ascension School. To them were born three sons, Albert, Philip and Thomas.
