Another Pioneer Gone Death of Priscilla Huffman Occurs November 6. The death of Mrs. Priscilla Huffman, occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jacob Long, a few miles north of this city Monday, November 6, 1905, and marks the passing of another of Union county’s pioneers to that unknown country. Priscilla Huffman, whose maiden name was Harris, was born in North Carolina, March 19, 1819, and was therefore 86 years, 7 months and 17 days old at the time of her death. Lewis, William S. “Uncle Billy” – Obituary

Two Baker County Pioneers Are Gone William S. “Uncle Billy” Lewis, who was a county charge, died in the hospital in Baker, last Friday. He was a native of Virginia, born in 1854. He came to Baker 12 years ago. A brother M.H. Lewis of Wingville, survives and five nieces and five nephews. Funeral was held Saturday. North Powder News Saturday, January 22, 1927

D. C. Jackson, a prominent citizen of Summitville, Tennessee, was born November 16, 1821, in Monticello, Kentucky, and is the son of J. B. and Dorcas (Cox) Jackson. The father was born in Lewisburg, N. C., in 1798, and when quite young came to Tennessee. For eight years, before he went into the mercantile business, he was clerk of McMinn County. The mother was born about 1797 in Tennessee. Both were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and he was a democrat. Deakins, farmer, of the Thirteenth District of Coffee County, Tennessee, was born in Marion County (now Sequatchie) Tennessee, in 1832, and is the son of William and Sarah (Richards) Deakins, natives of Tennessee. The father died in 1848 and the mother in 1836. Both were members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Jeremiah B. Thomson was born in Virginia, April 10, 1886, and moved to Evening Shade, Arkansas when a small boy. He passed away at Roseberg, Oregon in his 87th year. His father was married twice. To his first marriage two sons were born – James and Malcolm; to the second marriage two children were born -Jeremiah and Narcissa. His brother Malcolm and his parents died in Arkansas. LaGrande, Union County, Oregon Theodore Sidor, 62, of Corvallis, died Monday of natural causes while traveling in Alexandria,Va. Mr. Sidor, a former La Grande resident, had lived in Corvallis and was a current member of the city council. He was a professor emeritus at Oregon State University. Biographical Sketch of Martin Kite

Martin Kite, of Virginia, was of German descent. He married a Miss Cheeley, of Virginia, by whom he had George and Kitty, and several other children whose names we could not obtain. George and Kitty both live in Warren County. Mr. Kite settled in that county in 1835, and built a mill on Charrette creek. The lumber, from which most of the fiat-boats of that period were built, was sawed at Kite’s mill.

Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Young, of Charlotte, N.C. Is a graduate of Elizabeth College, Charlotte, and of Smith, Northampton, Mass.; also of the National Training School, New York. She taught at Virginia College, Roanoke, Va., for two years, and was then elected one of the two Field Directors of the South Atlantic States for the Student Body of the Y. W. C. A. George E. Tucker

Private, Co. D, 5th Div., 11th Inf. Born Oct. 3, 1890; son of S. P. and Charity Tucker, of Guilford County. Entered service Sept. 8, 1917, at High Point, N.C. Was sent to Camp Jackson, S. C.; transferred to Camp Forrest, Ga. Went to Brest, France, about April 1, 1918. Was shot in left arm and shell shocked on Oct. 16th, next to last drive before the armistice was signed. Sent to Base Hospital No. 48, France. Sent to USA on hospital ship to Newport News, Va., where he died on June 15, 1919. Buried at Randleman, N.C.

Poole, Elwyn L. – Obituary

Elwyn L. Poole, 85, of Pendleton, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1986, at Delamarter Care Center. He was born Feb. 21, 1900 in Rio, Miss., the son of Richard and Inez Poole. He attended Emerson Institute of Technology in Washington, D.C., and worked for various agencies of the federal government. When he retired in 1962 he was employed by the General Services Administration as an air conditioning engineer. On March 8, 1924, he married Ethel Alline Bound of Bailey, Miss.
