Siuslaw Tribe
The Siuslaw Indians were a small Yakonan tribe located along the Siuslaw River in west Oregon. Now nearly extinct, only a few survivors reside on the Siletz Reservation. Historical records from 1884, notably by Dorsey, identified various Siuslaw villages, including Chimuksaich, Hauwiyat, and Kuskussu, among others. This highlights the rich cultural heritage of the Siuslaw, despite its significant decline in population and cultural presence.
