Chimariko Tribe
The Chimariko, a small indigenous tribe from Northern California, inhabited the Trinity River area, primarily from Hawkins Bar to Big Bar. Known to themselves as Djimaliko, they were a friendly group adjacent to the Hupa and Shastan tribes but at odds with the Wintun. Their population dwindled to just nine individuals by 1903. Similar in culture to the Hupa, they subsisted mainly on salmon, eels, and acorns, lacking canoes and certain ceremonial practices common among neighboring tribes.
