Atquanachuke Tribe

The Atquanachuke Indians were a tribe located in south or central New Jersey during the early 17th century. Historical references are vague, with differing opinions on their exact location and language, which was distinct from nearby tribes such as the Powhatan and Conestoga. While some authorities suggest they inhabited the seacoast north of Chesapeake Bay, others, like Shea, mistakenly place them in eastern Maryland around 1633, inaccurately depicting them as allies of the Conestoga.
