A. S. Hatem
1st Lt. A. S. Hatem served with Company A, 79th Division, 310th Machine Gun Battalion. Born in Pitt County to Mr. and Mrs. S. Hatem, he joined the military in October 1917, training at Camp Meade before deploying to France on June 25, 1918. He was promoted to lieutenant in November 1918 and participated in key offensives, including St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne, where he was wounded. His service extended to the Mexican border, the Philippines, and China, concluding with his discharge in July 1919.
