We begin our story in the year 1854 when the United States Congress organized the Nebraska Territory. Four years later, a law was passed defining the boundaries of its counties and locating their county seats. Merrick County now had a name and a county seat — Elvira. To the present day no one knows the exact location of Elvira, but many pioneers believed it was located two miles southeast of Clarks. Dr. Oswald P. J. Falk, internist and diagnostician, with offices in the University Club building, was born in St. Louis, Missouri, June 12, 1894, and has spent his entire life here, being one of the younger representatives of the medical profession in the city. His father, John C. Falk, was born in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, and is now engaged in the practice of medicine in St. Louis.
