Calene

John Calene, born in Sweden in 1856, immigrated to the U.S. in 1866 and settled in Kansas. He began his mercantile career as a clerk and eventually founded the Calene Mercantile Company in Sylvan Grove, where he served as president. A dedicated community member, Calene contributed to local enterprises and served on the school board. He was active in the Masonic fraternity and other organizations. Married to Camilla Kreiser, he raised five children, demonstrating a commitment to both family and business throughout his life.
