James Madison Calavan, well-known resident and pioneer of Oregon, died at the family home, 804 Taylor Street, Friday night [February 8, 1924], after an illness of several months. James M. Calavan, son of Mr. and Mrs. James M. Calavan Sr., was born in Kentucky, October 24, 1845 and crossed the plains with an ox team to Oregon in 1863. He settled in Linn County where he made his home with a brother who preceded him. He took up a homestead which he cleared and later engaged in farming. Calavan, Virgil L. – Obituary

Virgil L. Calavan, 75, former Albany mayor who was active in civic affairs here for many years, died Friday morning in a Corvallis hospital after a long illness. Mr. Calavan was the former owner of a drug store in East Albany which is now Lammers’ Pharmacy. After selling the East Albany store he operated Mason’s Drug Store in downtown Albany, which is now owned by Gerald Steele. He had lived in Corvallis since 1946. James M. Calavan, a resident of this section for about eight years; died at the Willamette Sanitarium, Salem, Saturday evening, August 20th [1921]. He was aged 71 years, the husband of Mrs. Maggie Calavan and father of J. M. Calavan, Downs, Washington; J. L. Calavan of Silverton; R. E. Calavan of Oaksdale, Washington; Mrs. C. S.
