Mrs. Maggie C. Flynn, 85, a resident of the West Side and widow of J.C. Flynn, pioneer shoe store operator in Ellensburg, died early this morning in Valley General Hospital. She had lived at the “Flynn Orchards” on Route 1 for more than 40 years. The elderly woman fell two weeks ago Saturday when arising in the morning. She sprained her ankle and was unable to stand. After an illness of several months at her home near Twisp, Washington, Mrs. Martha Filer, died Thursday, August 25 [1913] age 73 years. Mrs. Filer was born January 8, 1840 in Illinois and when a girl moved with her parents to Texas, where in 1869 she was married to Jacob Filer. [Marriage date is incorrect. First child was born about 1862]. To this union twelve children were born, eight of whom are living; her daughters, Mrs. Jones of Twisp, Mrs. Tuverson of Kellogg, Idaho, Mrs. Manning of North Yakima, and Mrs. G. C. Fetters, Eliza Ann Enochs – Obituary

Mrs. Eliza Ann Fetters, 78, died this morning [January 1, 1918] at 8:30 o’clock at her home. Mrs. Fetters was born in Illinois and came to Kittitas County in 1883, having lived here ever since. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Estella M. Elliott of Seattle and Mrs. Orland Thorp, of Twin Falls, Idaho; five sons, Carl B., Horatio S., Freeman, Joe and Ernest Fetters. The funeral will be from the home tomorrow at 2:30. Rev. W. B. Young will conduct the service, and the body will be buried in the Odd Fellows’ Cemetery. Contributed by: Shelli Steedman

Ferrier, Jess – Obituary

Jess Ferrier, 67, well known retired Ellensburg contractor, died in a local hospital [October 6, 1948] yesterday afternoon. He had been in failing health for some time. A resident of Ellensburg nearly half a century, Ferrier came here in 1901. He was engaged in the construction and house-moving business for many years. Mrs. Ferrier died four years ago. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Stella McDebitt of Spokane. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Ferrier, Ida Beaman – Obituary

Mrs. Ida Ferrier, 78, wife of Jess Ferrier, a Kittitas Valley resident more than half a century, died last night October 8, 1944. Born in Iowa, she came to the valley in 1889. Besides her husband, a brother and a sister survive her. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Honeycutt Chapel, with Rev. W. M. Martin officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery. Ida’s parents were Justice Beaman and Eliza Rhodes. Her first husband was Samuel Cox. She divorced him by 1910.

Sudden Death of Mrs. E. L. Ferrier. Mrs. E. L. Ferrier died suddenly at her home in the north end on Wednesday. She had been an invalid for several years, but since coming here about a year ago, she had felt much better, but a hard cold quickly prostrated her and she passed away before it was realized how dangerous her condition was. Ezra [obit says Ed], 83, well-known retired Ellensburg contractor, died at a local hospital Monday [January 6, 1941], following a lengthy illness. A resident of Ellensburg for 37 years, he was widely known throughout this section. For many years he contracted excavation work and house moving here. He is survived by two sons, Jess of Ellensburg and Harry of Malden, Washington, and a daughter, Mrs. Stella McDevitt of Spokane. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Susie Matilda Ferguson, native pioneer resident, passed away Wednesday May 24, 1967 at the Burien General Hospital in Seattle at the age of 87 years. James Harvey Ferguson, 93, member of a pioneer Kittitas Valley family, died Saturday, October 18, 1969 in a Seattle nursing home. He was the son of James Ferguson and Elizabeth McEwen Ferguson, and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John McEwen. Funeral services are pending for Mrs. Martha Belle Evans, 81, a resident of Toppenish since 1905, who died Sunday May 22, 1966 in Toppenish. Mrs. Evans was born March 29, 1885 in Ellensburg, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey McEwen, pioneers of the Kittitas Valley. She married Lou Evans in 1904 and he died in 1949. She was a member of the Christian Congregational Church in Toppenish. Survivors include three brothers, Oscar McEwen, Ellensburg, Carl McEwen, Toppenish, and Clarence McEwen of Seattle; a niece, Mrs. Gladys Benz, Toppenish; and two nephews, Don McEwen, Portland, Ore., and Ralph McEwen, Toppenish.

Toppenish residents were shocked to learn early this week of the death of Sheriff Lew Evans. Mr. Evans who lived on a ranch near Buena was for a number of years a community leader in Toppenish. Death came to the popular county official in St. Elizabeth Hospital where he was taken after he had suffered a heart attack at his home one hour before.
