Raised alongside white children, she performed light chores and was treated kindly compared to her older siblings, who faced harsh punishment. Blakeley recounted the brutality inflicted on slaves, recalling a horrific beating that resulted in death. She also mentioned the secret dances held by slaves, highlighting the fear of overseers. Despite her painful memories, she expressed sympathy for those who suffered worse treatment, noting her current comfortable living situation.

William Anthony, a notable dry goods merchant in Burlingame, Kansas, served in the Union army during the Civil War and later became a respected teacher before entering business. In facing the challenges of widowhood, Mrs. Anthony demonstrated remarkable resourcefulness by successfully managing the store for over fifteen years, ensuring her children received a proper education. Eventually, she sold the business and moved to Topeka, where she resides today.

Fisher, Lillian – Obituary

Lillian May Fisher passed away at her home on January 13, 1938, after a prolonged illness at the age of 53. Born on January 19, 1884, in Isadora, Missouri, she had lived in Cove, Oregon, since 1910. Lillian is survived by her husband, Charles, two sons, and four sisters. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at the Methodist church, with burial in Cove cemetery. Arrangements are managed by Snodgrass and Zimmerman.
