Verlin A. Conner, 77, of Tygh Valley, a Halfway native, died March 15, 2007, at his home surrounded by the things he loved. There will be a celebration of his life at 1 p.m. Friday at the Tygh Valley Community Center. Verlin was born at Halfway to Albert and Alberta Conner. He grew up in the Baker area and was a Union High School graduate. At Union High School he was known as “Pee Wee Conner” on the football field. He was small, but mighty. Services for Liberty (Lib) P. Chastain, 65, Harper, who died Wednesday [November 16, 1966] were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Bertelson-Lienkaemper Memorial Chapel in Ontario with Mr. Elwood Flock officiating. Interment followed at Valley View in Vale. Mr. Chastain was born July 4, 1901, in Juniper Flat, near Tygh Valley, Ore. Joel O. Chastain, 67, a life-long resident of Tygh Valley where he was a dairyman and farmer, died Wednesday [May 17, 1961] in Portland after a long illness. Mr. Chastain was a member of the Tygh Valley Methodist Church and the Old Wasco County Pioneer Association. Surviving are his widow, Laura, of Tygh Valley; a daughter, Mrs. Nina Teschner, and two grandchildren, Tonya and Jola Teschner of Portland; three brothers, Frank of Yakima, John of Newport and Liberty Chastain of Harper, Ore.; and two sisters, Mrs. Effie Knighten and Mrs. Nina New, both of Harper.
