Biography of Hon. T. J. Medill
Thomas J. Medill, born in Milan, Illinois, in 1859, emerged as a notable figure in Rock Island through his political and business endeavors. After apprenticing as a paper maker, he transitioned into real estate and played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Black Hawk Homestead Building, Loan, and Savings Association. Medill served as mayor of Rock Island and was active in the Democratic Party. His leadership contributed significantly to local infrastructure, notably the water supply system. A committed community member, he was involved in various fraternal organizations and was married to Lucy Kinner, with whom he had one daughter.
