La Grande, Union County, Oregon Mrs. McLachlen Dies Wednesday; Funeral Friday Mrs. Mary McLachlen, a pioneer resident of La Grande, passed away on Wednesday, her death terminating in lingering illness. The body is at the Snodgrass and Zimmerman mortuary where funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock with burial in the I. O. O. F. cemetery. Born in Rochester, N. J. [sic – N. At the outbreak of the civil war he enlisted in Company G, One Hundred and Fortieth Regiment, as corporal of his regiment, and was an active participant in the battle of Fredericksburg. When De Nonville and his French army, in 1687, destroyed the Indian village of Gannagaro and Gaudougarae, the inhabitants were driven eastward and formed a village near the foot of Canandaigua Lake, which village and lake have since then borne that name.
