Hixson, William Adolph – Obituary

William Adolph Hixson, 86, of La Grande, passed away on May 13 at a local care center. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Loveland Funeral Chapel. Born on June 19, 1921, in Baker County, he served in the Army during World War II and worked in logging and later as a credit manager. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, their daughter Roberta, and several grandchildren. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Blue Mountain Humane Society or the American Diabetes Association.

Evans, John P. – Obituary

John P. Evans, a 74-year-old farmer from the Missouri flat region, passed away at St. Elizabeth hospital after a prolonged illness. Born in Howard County, Indiana, on November 25, 1853, he moved to Missouri as a child and married Elizabeth Colley in 1874. They lived in Baker County since 1880. Mrs. Evans predeceased him in 1917. He is survived by two sons, a daughter, nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and siblings. Funeral services took place at the Baptist church in Baker, officiated by Rev. A.P. Rossier.

George, Charles F. – Obituary

Charles F. George, a dairyman from the Missouri Flat district, tragically took his own life by shooting himself in the head with a .22 rifle at his home on Friday. Suffering from poor health, including a nervous breakdown, he succumbed to injuries at St. Elizabeth Hospital three hours later. He is survived by his wife, three sons, a daughter, and extended family members. Funeral services took place at the Baptist church in Haines, with burial at the Haines cemetery.

Leslie Roy “Les” Erwin, 85, of Baker City, Oregon, passed away on August 29, 2003. He was born on January 26, 1918, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Les worked in lumber and construction, including a long tenure as a shop foreman. He was married to Ruth Pettit for 64 years and was deeply involved in his family’s life. Les enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and had a great sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Bond, Champ Clark – Obituary

Champ Clark Bond, 90, of Haines, Oregon, passed away on March 16, 2002. A memorial service at Baker City Christian Church preceded his cremation. Born on a homestead in Missouri Flat, he graduated from La Grande High School and married Lois Lucretia Fisher in 1933. A farmer and self-taught mechanic, he built machines and motorized vehicles for his family. Champ was active in community and family businesses, served on school boards, and shared a love for music. He is survived by three children, ten grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
