Louis E. Bean, chairman of the Oregon State Public Service Commission, died suddenly of heart disease in his apartment at Salem shortly after 10 o’clock last night [July 6, 1929]. Mrs. Jessie Nash Withrow, 78, of 2014 NW Glisan St., former switchboard operator for The Oregonian, died Thursday [September 4, 1969] at a local hospital after a long illness. Mrs. Withrow was born in Junction City, Sept. 13, 1890. She had lived in Portland for the past 60 years. She worked on The Oregonian’s switchboard for 23 years.
