A. J. Zumwalt, pioneer and member of the Oregon legislature in 1880, died today [January 2, 1915] at his farm near Irving, five miles north of Eugene. Death, occurring at the age of 82 years, followed an attack of pneumonia, which kept him in bed for several weeks. A. J. Zumwalt was one of eleven children of Solomon and Nancy Zumwalt, pioneers, from whom have sprung 150 children, grandchildren and great grandchildren now living in Lane County. Joel F. Waldo, 45, of Baker City, died Oct. 22, 2004, at his home with his devoted wife, Cindy, his mother-in-law, Phyllis, and his minister by his side. He was diagnosed with lung cancer on Oct. 16, 2003, even though he had never smoked a day in his life. Stone, Karl R. – Obituary

Karl Roy Stone, a well-known La Grande businessman and longtime head of the Union County Planning Commission, died Saturday at Grande Ronde Hospital. He was 89. Mr. Stone, of 1703 Cedar St., was born on Sept. 15, 1895, in Sterling, Kan., to Robert and Amalia “Mollie” Birk. He served with the U.S. Army during World War I, and was corporal of the honor guards at the funeral of Buffalo Bill Cody at Pike’s Peak, Colo. JUDGE HUGH G. YOAKUM. – Judge Yoakum, who enjoys a very high reputation as a man of probity and fidelity in public affairs, was born in Tennessee in 1831, and removed to Missouri in 1834.
