Sedric Cleo Bloom, the son of George Arthur and Rosetha E. Bloom was born May 8, 1896 in Carson, IA. He died September 3, 1980 in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 84 years. He received his elementary education in Carson, Iowa. In 1911 the family moved to LaPlata, Missouri were Cleo attended high school. Cleo went on to further his education at Kansas City Business College. Cleo was united in marriage to Esther Bell Dudley on September 24, 1919 in South Gifford, Missouri. Enterprise, Wallowa County, Oregon Pioneer Mother Dies at La Grande Mrs. Emma L. Van Blokland, of Island City who crossed the plains by wagon train with her parents, Daniel and Sarah Henderson and several brothers and sisters, and homesteaded on Alder Slope, passed away in La Grande on Monday, January 13, 1964. She was born at LaPlata, Missouri 89 years ago, and had made her home in Island City for many years. She was a member of the First Methodist church, and a 50-year member of the Eastern Star. Bloom, Sedric Cleo, Jr. – Obituary

Cleo, “Junior,” as he was affectionately known, was born February 2, 1925 at LaPlata, Missouri. In the spring of the same year he and his family moved to a ranch south of Valentine, Nebraska. He attended country school and then graduated high school in Meadville, Pennsylvania where he lived with his Aunt Alpha Soupos. Three years later, 1946, he earned his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Missouri Columbia.
