Her death following that of her husband, Elmer E. Stickney, by a little more than a month, Mrs. May Stickney, 70- year-old Kittitas County pioneer, passed away at her home here last night [July 5, 1934] following a lingering illness. Mr. Stickney died on May 29. Mrs. Stickney was born February 10, 1864, at Oregon City, Oregon, and came to the Kittitas Valley in 1892. May 2 of that year she was married to Mr. Stickney. James A. Seaton, 73, well-known native Fairview District farmer, passed away Sunday [January 7, 1968] at his home. Born Nov. 12, 1893, near the head of Wilson Creek in Kittitas County, he was married to Ruth Z. Wallace, July 3, 1924 at Tacoma. His wife preceded him in death, passing away June 2, 1952. He was born in Jackson County, Oregon, Sept. 29, 1860, and came to the Kittitas Valley at the age of 21 from Salina, Calif. He was married to Deliah Davis, Feb. 14, 1890. The death of Mrs. Sasie F. Montgomery occurred this morning [December 1, 1922] at 5 o’clock at the family residence in the Broadview District, following an illness of a year. Mrs. Montgomery was born in Kerona, Illinois, May 21, 1858, coming to Kittitas County in 1888, where she has since made her home. She was married to James Montgomery in 1891. Soren Sorenson, prominent farmer of the Denmark District, died Tuesday afternoon [December 29, 1931] at the hospital from a heart ailment after an illness that confined him to his bed for little more than two weeks. Toppenish residents were shocked to learn early this week of the death of Sheriff Lew Evans. Mr. Evans who lived on a ranch near Buena was for a number of years a community leader in Toppenish. Death came to the popular county official in St. Elizabeth Hospital where he was taken after he had suffered a heart attack at his home one hour before. Former Yakima Valley resident Charles “Max” McKenzie, 84, of Edmonds, died Sunday in Edmonds [August 17, 1986]. Mr. McKenzie was born Dec. 8, 1901, in Omaha, Neb., to Charles and Maude McKenzie. They moved in 1903 to Quincy, where his family homesteaded until the death of his father in 1915. In 1917, they moved to the Kittitas Valley and took up farming. Funeral services are pending for Mrs. Martha Belle Evans, 81, a resident of Toppenish since 1905, who died Sunday May 22, 1966 in Toppenish. Mrs. Evans was born March 29, 1885 in Ellensburg, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey McEwen, pioneers of the Kittitas Valley. She married Lou Evans in 1904 and he died in 1949. She was a member of the Christian Congregational Church in Toppenish. Survivors include three brothers, Oscar McEwen, Ellensburg, Carl McEwen, Toppenish, and Clarence McEwen of Seattle; a niece, Mrs. Gladys Benz, Toppenish; and two nephews, Don McEwen, Portland, Ore., and Ralph McEwen, Toppenish.
