Funeral services for Grant Kirkendoll, who died yesterday morning at his home on Silver Lake following a long illness, will be held Sunday from the Methodist Church here with burial in the Whittle Cemetery. He was born in Iowa, December 25, 1865, and came to Kelso with his parents when a small child. He has since lived in Cowlitz and Lewis counties, making his home at different times in Kelso, Toledo, Sandy Bend and Silver Lake. He has always been a rancher. Durkee, Oregon Dale Robert Carlile, 63, died Jan. 9, 2004, at his home in Durkee. At Dale’s request, there will be no services. Dale was born May 10, 1940, at Kelso, Wash., to Harry Carlile and Frieda Valentine Carlile. He attended school at Kelso/Longview where he loved playing football. After graduating from high school, Dale joined the U.S .Army and attended Ranger school. He was involved in the early years of the Vietnam War. Melvin E., 62, 412 S. Pacific Ave., Kelso, died April 2 at home. He was born April 5, 1907 in Winchester, Wash. He had lived in this area for 42 years and worked as a bartender. He was a World War II veteran and was a member of the American Legion. Survivors include one son, Shirley McEwen; three brothers, Wilbur of Kelso, Elmer of Oakland, and Dan of Centralia; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Timberman of Vancouver, and Mrs. Alta Rasmussen of Battle Ground; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Etta Burbee, 76, of 620 N. 1st St., Kelso, died Nov. 30 [1946]. Born June 10, 1870 at Castle Rock, she was a lifelong resident of the State of Washington. Survivors include two sons, Leo of Concrete and Mark of Toledo; three daughters, Mrs. W. G. Booth of Corvallis, Mrs. Jennie McLean of Yakima, and Mrs. Essie Disque of Kelso; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; two sisters and one brother. Funeral arrangements are pending. Baker City, Baker County, Oregon Virginia Arlene (Van Cleave) Hall, 68, of Nyssa, died June 1, 2005. Virginia was born March 9, 1937, in Baker City where she lived until she married Burl Elton Dalgliesh. They moved to Kelso, Wash., and had two children, Felena Marie and Helena Bonita (Bonnie). Virginia has been a longtime resident of Nyssa and retired from Heinz Frozen Foods in 2003. Wilbur McEwen, 77, 120 Vision Drive, Kelso, died July 4, 1992, at Community Hospice. A Washington native, he was born March 24, 1915 to Daniel and Lena (Owens) McEwen. Mr. McEwen, a former Weyerhaeuser Co., International Woodworkers of American Wood Worker, had lived in this area since 1929. He was a member of the Kelso American Legion Post 25 for 44 years. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans Evergreen State Chapter 11. He enjoyed his family and family gatherings.
