ALFRED HOVENDEN. – Mr. Hovenden, known everywhere among the early pioneers as one of the most benevolent, upright and sagacious of men, was born in Kent county, England, August 26, 1824, of that steady, sterling English stock that fainted not and never failed. He crossed the water to American when twenty years old, and made his first home on a farm in Peoria county, Illinois. Stevens, Gladys H. – Obituary

LaGrande, Oregon Gladys H. Stevens, 80, of La Grande died April 12 at a local care home. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Summerville Cemetery Chapel. Loveland Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements. Mrs. Stevens was born Aug. 25, 1926, in Hubbard to Claus T. and Anna (Grand) Isaacson. She married Richard L. Stevens in Laramie, Wyo. June 14, 1945. A.B. GLEASON. – This gentleman is the son of Parsons Gleason, and is now one of the active business men of the state. He was born May 22, 1829, in Ripley county, Indiana. In 1849 he entered upon life as boatman on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers, and in 1851 came with his father to the Pacific coast.
