Herford, Oregon Edward Duwayne Sullivan, 80, died on Oct. 23, 2004, at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center surrounded by his family. There will be no funeral. Disposition of his ashes will be later on the family’s property. Duwayne was born to Edward and Myrtle Valentine Sullivan on Sept. 3, 1924, at his grandparents’ home in Baker City. He was raised on the family ranch at Hereford. Duwayne was a 1942 graduate of Hereford Union High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the latter part of World War II in the Pacific Theater. La Grande, Oregon M. LaVelle Givens, 80, of La Grande and formerly of Baker City, died Oct. 25 in La Grande. At her request there will be no public services. Her great-grandparents, Thomas and Marietta (Dunn) Boyer, homesteaded in the Grande Ronde Valley in 1864. Her grandfather, Richard Boyer, was born near La Grande in 1873. Haines, Oregon Betty Jane Wendt, 77, a former longtime Haines resident, died Sept. 3, 2004, at her home in Lebanon. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Mount Hope Cemetery. Pastor Robin Harris of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in North Powder will officiate. Visitations will be held at Gray’s West & Company Pioneer Chapel until 5 p.m. today. Baker City, Oregon Albert Smith, 85, of Baker City, died Feb. 13, 2004, at the Boise Veterans Hospital. His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St. Mr. Lynn Shumway will officiate. Military rites will be accorded by the Oregon Army National Guard.
