Clemens, Gerald Raymond – Obituary

Gerald Raymond Clemens, 87, of Medford, passed away on December 7, 2001. His funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on December 10 at OHair and Riggs Funeral Chapel. Born on November 13, 1914, in Lostine, he graduated from Helix High School and earned degrees from the University of Oregon. A dedicated educator, he taught in Klamath Falls until his retirement in 1974. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the Bronze Star. He is survived by three nieces and a nephew.

Planting, Clarence A. – Obituary

Clarence A. Planting, aged 76, passed away on February 6, 1986, in Boise. A retired Ada County Clerk and devoted Christian, he was active in evangelism and community service throughout his life. Born on September 13, 1909, in Astoria, Oregon, he moved to Boise in 1936 and later served in various capacities, including pastor and advisor for Christian organizations. He is survived by his wife Freada, three children, and numerous relatives. Funeral services will take place February 10 at the Central Assembly Christian Life Center.

Konenen, George L. – Obituary

George L. Kononen, 71, of Helix, passed away on January 2, 1989, at Delamarter Care Center in Pendleton. A graveside service will occur at Olney Cemetery on January 5. Born on February 22, 1917, in Pendleton, he worked on farms and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Norma C. Hunot in 1945 and managed the Bollmer-Stimell Ranch for 24 years. Kononen, Norma Catherine Hunt – Obituary

Norma C. Kononen, 67, of Helix, passed away on December 9, 1992, at Amber Valley Care Center in Pendleton. Born on May 19, 1925, in Athena, she married George L. Kononen in 1945 and served as deputy clerk for Helix School District for 41 years. Active in local organizations, she was involved with the Helix Ladies Aid and the County School Business Officials Association. She is survived by her mother, daughters, brothers, and five grandchildren. A graveside service is scheduled for December 12 at Olney Cemetery.

Cooke, Henry Daniel – Obituary

Henry Daniel Cooke, aged 69, passed away at his home in the Fairview district on July 2, 1951. A lifelong resident of Kittitas Valley, he farmed the Cooke property for 16 years. Born on December 4, 1881, he was the son of Edward Ward Cooke and a descendant of local pioneers. Cooke is survived by his wife Cora and several siblings. His funeral will be held on July 6, with burial at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Hill, Fred W. – Obituary

Fred W. Hill, 92, of Walla Walla, Washington, passed away on April 22, 2005. A former Baker County Extension agent and dedicated supporter of the Pendleton Round-Up, he was known for his leadership and friendship within the community, serving as president of the Round-Up and Indian director. Born in 1913, he played basketball at Oregon State University and worked in various community roles, including on the Oregon Highway Commission. He is survived by his wife Shirley, children, and grandchildren.
