Biography of Adam Hance

Adam Hance was born in Coblin, a French province of Alsace, and, as usual with the people of that country, spoke both German and English. He came to America and settled near Germantown, Pa., in 1722, where he married a German lady, and raised a large family. His younger son, also named Adam, married a Miss Stoebuck, of Pennsylvania, in 1768, and settled in Montgomery County, Va. Father of the John Glenn Newbill, was born in Franklin county, Virginia, May 17th, 1882. He was married December 1st, 1846, to Nancy A. Johnson, only daughter of James M. and Elizabeth Johnson, and in the following year removed to Southwest Missouri, locating on the farm now owned by Dr. H. H. Lea, in the northeast corner of the territory now known as Webster county. Three years afterward he removed to Greene county, where he purchased the fine farm of Samuel McClelland, two and one-half miles west of Springfield. Bird, John and his wife, Sarah Harvey, lived and died in Franklin County, Va. They had a son named Bartlett, who married Jane Jameson, by whom he had Mary, Edward, Abner, Marshall, and Sally. Mary was married first to Henry Morris, who died in Virginia. She then married Richard Stegall, who settled in Warren County, Mo., afterward removed to Jackson County, and now resides in Texas.
