Biography of Col. John J. Kemp

Col. John J. Kemp, born August 6, 1818, in middle Tennessee, made significant contributions as a farmer and stock raiser after moving to Arkansas. He established one of the county’s finest farms and was an early advocate for superior livestock. A Confederate soldier, Kemp faced financial loss during the Civil War but later regained wealth. He was a committed member of the Christian Church and the A.F. A. M. His legacy continues through his children, particularly his son Isaac, who manages the family farm today. Kemp passed away on May 31, 1893.
