Elgin, Oregon Clayton Richard Breckon, 89, of Elgin, died Jan. 8 at his home. A funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Elgin. Loveland Funeral Chapel and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Clayton was born Feb. 27, 1918, to Richard David and Eva Kate Plant Breckon in Ontario. Carol Andrea McKim, 50, of Eugene, a former Halfway resident, died July 31, 2007, after an aggressive four-month battle with throat cancer. There will be a service celebrating her life at 12:15 p.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eugene. The family will gather at Halfway to honor her memory next summer. Carol Andrea McKim was born at Baker City in 1957. She attended Baker schools and was a graduate of Pine-Eagle High School at Halfway. La Grande, Oregon Jimmie E. Engle, 88, of Eugene and formerly of La Grande, died Nov. 13. The family will have a private memorial service in Eugene. Mr. Engle was born Jan. 24, 1918, in Krupp, Wash., and grew up in eastern Washington. In 1941 he married Sheila Thompson in Portland. He served in the Army overseas during World War II, then attended pharmacy school at Oregon State University. La Grande, Oregon Claude Allen Spears, 75, of Boise and formerly of La Grande, died Feb. 22 at a Boise hospital after a short illness. A memorial service took place Feb. 26 at Redeemer Lutheran in Boise. Burial will be at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Alan Endre Anderson of Eugene died March 29, 2009 of age related causes. He was 83. A private family celebration will be later. He was born Nov. 21, 1925, in Alpine, Wash., to Endre and Beulah Thompson Anderson. He married Judith Mann on June 21, 1957, in Olympia. A memorial service was held on Jan. 16 for Willie “Papa” Hassler of Eugene and a former resident of Halfway and Baker City, who died Jan. 12 at age 87. Willie was born April 7, 1915, in Oregon City to Audley and Anna Hassler. He married Carrie Sells in Reno, Nev., in 1967. Carrie died in April 2001.
