The following biographies were written in 1922 and pertain to “important” men who resided in the Muskogee and northeastern areas of Oklahoma. By important, it should be emphasized that each biography was submitted along with a payment for inclusion in the biographical manuscript. Therefore, anyone who chose not to pay for such a service was often left out of the manuscript. The counties covered by this manuscript include Adair, Cherokee, Craig, Delaware, Mayes, McIntosh, Muskogee, Nowata, Ottawa, Rogers, Sequoyah, Wagoner, and Washington.

Biographical Sketch of Fred Lee Dupree

(See Adair)-William E. Dupree was born November 9, 1857, in Texas; married January 11, 1883, at Whitman, Texas, to Fannie L. Wright, who was born January 14, 1860 in Texas. They are the parents of Emma Dupree, born December 13, 1888; and Fred Lee Dupree, born August 20, 1895 at Vinita. Emma Dupree was educated at Willie Halsell College at Vinita, and the Northeastern State Normal at Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Biographical Sketch of Landrum Crittenden Jennings

(See Grant, Foreman and Conrad)  Caroline, daughter of John and Nellie (Martin) Agnew, married Anderson Landrum Crittenden Jennings, and they were the parents of Landrum Crittenden Jennings, born in 1876; he was educated in Worcester Academy and the Male Seminary, being a graduate from the latter institution. He married in 1899 Jananna, daughter of James Franklin and Ruth Ellen (Martin) Benge, born in 1880. She was educated in Vinita. Biographical Sketch of Mrs. Bert F. Thompson

(See England) -Maggie L., daughter of William Garrett and Eliza (Scrimsher) Williamson, was born May 1, 1880. Educated in Worcester Academy, Vinita, and Female Seminary. Married near White Oak June 13, 1898, Bert F., son of Nathaniel and Zerilda Thompson. They are the parents of: Albert Louis, born Aug. 13, 1900; Harley C., born Nov. 22, 1904; Mabel Aline, born Oct. 15, 1908; Velma Viola, born Jan. 13, 1911, and Jaunita Thompson, born Sept. 2, 1913. Married at Nowata April 16, 1906. Martha daughter of Thomas Didymas and Joanna (Pitt) Saunders, born at Braggs December 28, 1885. She died Feb. 10, 1913. Biographical Sketch of Thomas Fox Thompson

(See Grant and Ghigau)-Thomas Fox Thompson, born in Tahlequah District, May 3, 1848 and educated at Pea Ridge, Ark. Married Dec. 18, 1870 Susan C. Parks and after her death married on May 19, 1914 Lillie McBride, nee Schaer; his Cherokee name is Chisgua-kyah and he belongs to the Deer Clan. He is a Methodist and had retired after having been in the dry goods and grocery business in Vinita for twenty years. Mr. Thompson was elected member of the Council from Delaware District in 1879.

Biography of Joseph Hubbard Butler

Joseph Hubbard Butler, a representative of a pioneer family of Oklahoma, bears a name that has long been an honored one in business circles and public affairs of this part of the state and is now serving as Vice President of the Home Farm Mortgage Company of Vinita, displaying enterprise, determination and administrative ability in the control of his interests. (See Grant)-Julia Theresa, daughter of William Columbus and Jane (Davis) Patton was born December 29, 1867 in Walker County, Georgia. Educated at Drury College, Springfield, Missouri, and Vassar College. She married at Vinita November 13, 1889 Francis Bartow, son of H. W. and Sarah (Denman) Fite, born October 17, 1861 in Bartow County, Georgia. She was educated at Vinita and Harrell Institute, and is a graduate from the latter institution. She married November 2, 1898, Luman Franklin Parker, born August 23, 1872, in Phelps County, Missouri.
