Biography of Elliott Carriger
Elliott Carriger, born in 1816 in Tennessee, was a significant pioneer in Kansas, arriving in 1854. His early education set him apart during a time when many lacked formal schooling. A skilled mechanic, he established a sawmill in Brownsville, providing essential materials for early settlers. Carriger served as a justice of the peace, known for resolving disputes amicably. He held various community roles, including county commissioner, and played a vital part in the region’s development before his death in 1891. He and his wife had eight children.
