Bishop, Myrtle W. Mrs. – Obituary

Myrtle W. Bishop, 92, was born on Feb. 16, 1917 in St. Augustine, Fla., and passed away peacefully at her home in Laguna Niguel, Calif. on June 6, 2009 after a very short illness. She and her husband, Ernest W. “Red” Bishop, who predeceased her in 1992 after 57 years of marriage, moved to Inglewood, Calif., in 1941. During World War II she was employed as a riveter at North American Aviation. She subsequently worked as a seamstress at Virtue Brothers Mfg. in Inglewood, Calif. In 1964, she and her husband moved to Laguna Niguel as one of its first residents. She and her husband loved to travel and toured more than forty states, including Oregon to see family, in their motor home after they retired. They also enjoyed trips to Europe and the Caribbean.

Myrtle is survived by her sons and daughters-in law, Larry and Christie Bishop of Laguna Niguel, Gary and Linda Bishop of Florence, Mont., and Don and Gerda Bishop of Alta Loma, Calif. She is also survived by two sisters, Anne “Bebe” Racey of Bridgeport, Ore., and Emily Rabourne of Sandpointe, Ida., and by 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her loved ones in eastern Oregon not only include her sister Bebe, but also her niece Suzan Jones and husband Keith Jones of Bridgeport, and great-niece Kerry Jones of Baker City.

She devoted her time and attention to her family, and was known to have never forgotten to remember a holiday, anniversary or birthday. Her home was the center for all family activities.

Myrtle was an active member of the Aliso Creek Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Silver Sneakers Exercise Class at the Laguna Niguel YMCAwhere she exercised three or four times a week up until a month before her death. She will be missed, but remembered by all whose life she touched.
