Georgia Emma Chappelle, 85, of The Dalles and formerly of La Grande, died Nov. 17. A funeral begins at 2 p.m. Friday at Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center in La Grande.

Georgia was born July 31, 1922, to James W. and Myrtle Lafatame (Wale) Vickers, in Searcy, Ark. She was raised and educated in Arkansas and married Jasper Chappelle on Dec. 10, 1945, in Waldron, Ark. They came to Oregon in the early 1950s.

Those who knew her say Georgia had a fun-loving spirit. She loved dancing, singing and yodeling. She won many ribbons in sprinting events and enjoyed family, friends, photography, music and watching horse races.

Survivors include her children, Robert Chappelle and his fiancé, Diane Harrison, of La Grande, Vickie Bruins and her husband, James, of Hermiston and Shirley Powell and her husband, Stephen, of The Dalles; siblings, James Vickers of Orlando, Fla., and Hugh Vickers and Melva Adair, both of Boonevile, Ark.; many grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978; and siblings, Opal Meher, Johnny Vickers, Charles Vickers, Little Francis Vickers and Melvin Vickers.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart of Hope Hospice-Hood River or any other charity.
