George Hayes Dies At Pasco, Valley Pioneer Passes Thursday

George H. Hayes, 75, a Kittitas Valley pioneer, died Thursday afternoon at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Pasco following an illness of two weeks [died May 31, 1956]. He had made his home in Pasco with a daughter, Mrs. Helen Rombough, for the past year.

Hayes was brought to the valley by his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. James T. Hayes. He farmed for many years in the Edgemont District before his retirement.

He was a past master of the Kittitas Grange, a charter member of the Ellensburg Moose Lodge and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Sunnyside.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Helen Rombough: four brothers, John and Harry Hayes of Ellensburg, Abe Hayes of Kittitas and C. P. Hayes of Yakima; a sister, Mrs. Marie Bender of Ellensburg; and a granddaughter, Donna Marie Rombough, and a grandson, Roy D. Rombough, both of Pasco. His wife, Mrs. Lydia Hayes, died in 1933, and another daughter, Mrs. Hilda Marie Rexroth in 1955.

The body was returned here by the Evenson Funeral Home and will lie in state there until Monday at 1 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Evenson Chapel Monday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Andrew Daughter of the Pasco Episcopal Church officiating. The Ellensburg Masonic Lodge will conduct graveside services at the IOOF Cemetery.
