Ione Joy Berry, Wallowa County native passed away Feb. 21, 2000, at Wallowa Memorial Hospital.
Ione was born on lower Bear Creek in Wallowa on March 6, 1913. Her parents were Thomas J. Elledge and Lillian Edith Marvin Elledge. She was one of three children – Arba Elledge, Arletha Elledge McRae and Ione Elledge Berry.
Ione grew up on Dry Creek on a farm and graduated from Wallowa High School in 1929.
Ione married Charles Berry of Wallowa on June 28, 1933. They had four children, Cleve Berry of Montana, Charlene Houser of Ontario, Earl Berry of Wyoming, and Duane Berry of Imbler.
Ione was the librarian for the Wallowa City Library for 17 years.
Ione and Charlie loved hunting, fishing and being together in the woods, as well as gardening. They were married 56 years.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, sister,and husband Charlie.
Ione has numerous nephews, nieces, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, three daughters-in-laws and one son-in-law.
Memorials in her memory may be made to the Wallowa Memorial Hospital in care of the Bollman Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at the Wallowa Cemetery at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, with Dallas McCrae officiating. A dinner will be served at the Wallowa Senior Center after the graveside service.
