Waelty, M. E. – Obituary

Funeral services were held for Murland Edwin Waelty Saturday, March 28 at 2 p.m., at the Bollman Funeral chapel in Enterprise. Mr. Waelty died at the Grand Ronde hospital in La Grande March 26, 1959, following a long illness.

He was born at Summerville, Oregon, March 10, 1888, the son of Albert and Minnie Waelty. With his parents he came to Wallowa County at the age of 13 years and had resided here continuously until his death.

He was married to Christina Goebel on July 5, 1909. Mr. and Mrs. Waelty resided on their farm in Middle Valley for many years. They sold their farm there a number of years ago and moved to an acreage on Bear Creek, where they lived until two years ago, when on the completion of a new home in town, they sold their acreage and moved to town.

Mr. Waelty was engaged in the sawmill business for four years following disposing of his farm. During the past number of years he was engaged in doing carpenter work.

Rev. Willis Ludlow, pastor of the Methodist church of Wallowa, officiated at the services. Rachel Ann Sutphin sang two selections, “No Night There” and “Beyond the Sunset.” Organist was Mrs. A. L. Kinter of Enterprise. A large number of floral offerings were arranged about the chapel, and upon the casket, forming a beautiful tribute to the memory of Mr. Waelty.

Pall bearers were Jack Coleman, E.J. Hook, Paul Bartmess, Stanley Shell, Elmer Pullen and Rayford Guillory.

Mr. Waelty is survived by his wife Christina Waelty, Wallowa, a sister, Mrs. Lee Banks of Walla Walla, and a nephew, Carlon Thompson of Portland.

People from out of the County attending the services were, Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Goebel of Caldwell, Idaho, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Sevy of Wilder, Idaho, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Williams of Caldwell, Idaho, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Banks of Walla Walla, Wash., Mr. and Mrs. Carlon Thompson of Portland; Mr. and Mrs. Guy Murrill of Flora, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Rhodes and two sons of Spokane, Wash., Mr. and Mrs. John Waelty of Elgin; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Waelty, and Mr. Arnold Waelty all of Cricket Flat. Burial was in Wallowa cemetery with vault entombment.
