Entered the service at Carthage, N.C., Sept. 17, 1917, and sent to Camp Jackson, S. C. Transferred to Camp Sevier, S. C., and then to Camp Merritt, N. J. Sailed for France May 28, 1918. Promoted to Private, 1st class, March 6, 1918. Fought on Hindenburg Line, at St. Quentin, Kimmell Hill Drive, Voormizelle, Bellicourt, Nauroy, Brancourt, Premont, Busigny, Escaufourt, Vaux Andigny, Molain, St. Martin, Riviere, Rebeauville and Mazinghein. Due medals, but for the reason of being in hospital at time of awarding failed to receive.
