Samuel, son of William and Ruth (Cook) Collins, was born in 1763, and removed with his wife Elizabeth and four children to Berkshire, Tioga county, New York. He married, 1793, Elizabeth, daughter of judge Nathaniel Bishop, of Lenox, Massachusetts. Judge Bishop was at one time chief justice of the court of sessions and later for twenty years judge of the court of common pleas for western Massachusetts.
