June 3, 1926, Edwin Goebel, youngest son of Peter Goebel of Wallowa, died at the Wallowa hospital this morning as a result of injuries received at the mill here Monday morning, May 24, when he was struck on the head by a 250-pound belt tightener, or “idler” when he and Fred Hebert were attempting to replace a belt which had been thrown off by a piece of bark. Following the injury, he was taken to the Wallowa hospital where he lay in an unconscious state, gradually growing weaker until death came this morning. Edwin was 20 years, 11 months, and

Anna Margaretta “Maggie” Hetrick, a resident of Wallowa County most of her life, died March 20, 1982, at Valley View Manor in La Grande, one week before her 100th birthday. Born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on March 27, 1882, she was the daughter of Peter and Gertrude Anna Huber Goebel and the oldest of 10 children. The family moved to Wallowa County from Humbolt County, Wisconsin, in 1888. On November 27, 1907, she was married to Calvin Hetrick in Wallowa, and she spent her adult life as a homemaker. Peter Goebel Is Laid To Final Rest Thursday Mass was said Thursday morning in the Catholic church here for Peter Goebel, who died early Tuesday morning at his home here after a month’s illness. He was 94 years of age and while he had not fared from home much the last few years, he remained in good health and some daily activity up until his final illness. Peter Goebel was born August 6, 1857, at Humboldt, Wisconsin. He died at the home of his daughter on December 11, 1951, at the age of 94 years 4 months and 5 days.

Reuben Breshears of Wallowa died Friday morning, April 10, 1942, at the Enterprise hospital where she had been a patient for the past week. She was sixty five years of age and had not been well for a long time. Mrs. Breshears was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, and from there moved to Springfield, Illinois. She was married in 1905. Joseph, Oregon Norma E. Barton, of Joseph, died March 26, 2007, at Wallowa Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was 76. Mrs. Barton was born May 6, 1930, to Jesse Crader and Inez Morgan. She graduated from Joseph High School. She married Selwyn L. Barton in 1951. He died in 2000. Wallowa Lake, Oregon Oliver Earl Boeve, 54, of Wallowa Lake died April 15, 2005, at home. He was born June 7, 1950, in Portland, the son of the late Kenneth Gerald Boeve and Mary Lou Atkinson Boeve. He grew up in Tigard and Sherwood, graduating from Sherwood High School in 1969. Boeve served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne in 1970-71. He was married to Keithanne Hastings in 1973. He was self-employed all of his life from 1971 in construction and restaurant businesses. Wallowa, Oregon Roberta Johnson Bird died Aug. 5, 2006, at the Odd Fellows Home in Walla Walla, Wash. She was 87. Mrs. Bird was born June 15, 1919, in Wallowa to William E. and Laura B. Johnson. She graduated with honors from Wallowa High School in 1936. She walked the five miles to Wallowa High School and returned daily unless some kind person gave her a ride. Jeannie Marie Emmons of Wallowa died March 27, 2007, in Walla Walla, Wash. She was 47. Ms. Emmons was born Feb. 28, 1960. She lived most of her life in Wallowa.
