Bean, Louis Elmer – Obituary

Louis E. Bean, chairman of the Oregon State Public Service Commission, died suddenly of heart disease in his apartment at Salem shortly after 10 o’clock last night [July 6, 1929]. Mr. Bean underwent a major operation during the last Christmas holidays, and at that time a serious condition was discovered which physicians knew might cause his death at any time, though he was able to continue his work after his discharge from the hospital. Longtime Central Oregon resident Louis Alexander ‘Al’ Bean died Wednesday [June 15, 1988] at Central Oregon District Hospital in Redmond. He was 77. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Tabor’s Desert Hills Mortuary. A concluding service and vault interment will follow at Deschutes Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Julia A. Bean, an early Oregon pioneer, died at her home in Eugene this afternoon [February 19, 1908] at 1:00 after a long illness. She would have been 70 years old age on the 25th of this month had she lived until then. Mrs. Bean, whose maiden name was Sharp, was born near Newmarket, Harrison County, Ohio, February 25, 1838. John W. Bean, prominent young engineer, and a son of the late Louis E. Bean, died Friday morning [August 19, 1942] at 10 o’clock at the Pacific Christian Hospital at the age of 25 years, following a brief illness. Mr. Bean suffered an attack of appendicitis while on a fishing trip in the Salmon Creek country above Oakridge, and was forced to walk more than 12 miles out of the hills. Bean, died Sunday night [April 11, 1937] at her home, 7326 Southwest Brier Place, where she had lived since 1921. Mrs. Bean was born in Linn County, November 13, 1857, the daughter of Dr. Thomas and Cornelia Holt Condon. Complications following an operation, yesterday caused the death of Dr. Harold C. Bean, 40, president of the State Board of Health and one of the most prominent diagnosticians in Portland. Dr. Bean died shortly before noon at the Good Samaritan Hospital, where he was operated on December 26, two days before his 40th birthday.
