Mrs. Hattie Alice McWilliam Succumbs At Hospital Mrs. Hattie McWilliam, one day away from her 88th birthday, died at a La Grande hospital Friday. She was born in Summerville and had lived there with the exception of 15 years of California residence. Survivors are Mrs. Mina Standley, Rt. 1, La Grande, and Mrs. Clyde McKenzie of Summerville. She was the daughter of the late T. T. and Sarah Glenn, pioneers of Summerville. Funeral arrangements are pending. Kirk V. McShane, 52, formerly of La Grande, died June 29 in Portland. A memorial service was conducted July 5. Mr. McShane was born Jan. 30, 1954, to Francis and Margaret McShane in Ontario, and graduated from La Grande High School in 1974. He moved to Portland, where he worked for several music warehouses and stores. He graduated from Portland State University and became a distribution manager for Graybar Electric. He married Denise P. LaGrande, Oregon Donald Scott MacPherson, 55, of Las Vegas, Nev., and formerly of Union died May 19 at his home. Palm Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Mr. MacPherson was born Sept. 4, 1950, to Don and Alice MacPherson in La Grande. He graduated from Union High School and Eastern Oregon State College. North Powder, Union County, Oregon Little Leona McPhee Passed This Life Wednesday Night The death of little Leona McPhee, aged 10, occurred at the Baker hospital between nine and ten o’clock Wednesday night, following an illness of about two weeks. The direct cause of death is attributed to appendicitis and peritonitis following the operation. Leona was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John McPhee, Jr., and a pupil in the North Powder schools. Union, Union County, Oregon Samuel McMasters, an old citizen of Union, was found dead in his bed Monday morning last, and an examination by physicians demonstrated that he had died a natural death of heart failure. He was 57 years, 4 months and 29 days of age and leaves three children-two sons and one daughter, Mrs. J. F. Sheets, of Joseph, Oregon. The Death of John McLeod, a well known and pioneer resident of this county, occurred at the home of his son, N.C. McLeod, in this city Monday evening, January 29, 1906. Death, which resulted from angina pectoris, came suddenly as up to Monday morning he had been feeling as well as usual and had attended church services the day previous. “Grandpa” McLeod by which name he was familiarly known, was born on the isle of Sky, Scotland, July 12, 1820, and was therefore 85 years, 6 months and 17 days old at the time of his death. La Grande, Union County, Oregon A Very Sudden Death The death of Hiram McLaughlin, a jewler, occurred very suddenly at his place of business in Hays Variety store, Saturday evening says the La Grande Gazette. He had started to walk to the rear of the building and advancing a few steps, sank witha groan into a chair. Parties who were present ran to his assistance, but he failed to rally, and in a few minutes life, was extinct. Dorothy Julia McLaughlin, 95, formerly of Summerville and Union, died June 24, 2007, at Wilcox Arizona Nursing Home. A service will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Summerville Cemetery. Dorothy McLaughlin was born in Hastings, Neb., Jan. 14, 1912. She lived in Summerville from the early 1940s to the late 1960s. She lived in Union before that. Men Killed In Wreck Chester A. McLaughlin, aged 24, and Harvey Folkestad, an I.W.W., aged about 43, were killed in a freight train wreck early Monday morning when an extra east freight train was derailed at Perry. While passing Perry at 1:45 a.m. the brake team came down on the fourth car from the engine, and as a result the six following cars left the track.
