I worked with Robert Eldon Brown more than fifty years ago when I was an archivist at the Virginia State Library. This book is absolutely essential reading for anyone who wants to understand what Virginia was like in the Eighteenth century. Brown did then tedious spade-work that no on before or since was willing to do. An excellent book.
