About New Kent County, Virginia St. Peter's Parish Vestry Book and Register, 1684-1786

This database contains records from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries of the parish of St. Peter, which is located in New Kent County, Virginia. The General Assembly created the parishes of the Established Church in colonial Virginia and then appointed the parish vestries to conduct certain administrative affairs. The first portion of this database contains the minutes of the vestry meetings from 1684 to 1758. These minutes include items such as the names of the men present at the meetings, accounting affairs of the parish, tithing matters, who is to preach the next sermon, who is to serve as a minister, and other types of things that would be discussed at these meetings. The second and third sections of the database are comprised of the registers recording the births, baptisms, marriages, and deaths occurring in the parish, however they are incomplete. The second section contains the register recording these events from 1685 to 1730, while the third section records those from 1733 to the end of the century.
