Boone County, Missouri, Cemetery Index, 1800-1965

This collection of cemetery records adds to the growing number of databases in the "Ellsberry Collection." The database was compiled by long-time researcher, school teacher, and professional genealogist Elizabeth Ellsberry. These cemetery records contain the name of the deceased, relatives, birth date, death date, etc., as well as age, when given. You may also find notes on some of the graveyards listed. The database includes more than 11,500 entries.

• New Salem: Located 10 miles south of Columbia, MO, on Highway 63
• Harris: Located five and a half miles south from Columbia, MO, on Highway 63. Several old stones unreadable.
• Unknown: Located two miles east of Sapp, MO
• Fairview: Located one mile southwest of Columbia, MO
• Bethel: Located three miles south of Columbia, MO on Route K and 1/4 mile west
• Little Bonne Femme: Located four miles south from Columbia, MO, on Highway 63
• Union: Located six miles southwest of Columbia, MO, on Route K and one half mile north
• Church of Christ: Located one mile west of Hallsville, MO, on Route 124
• Union: Located two miles south of Centralia, MO on Route JJ
• Sturgeon: Located one mile southwest of Sturgeon, MO
• Liberty: Located one mile west and one half mile from Ashland, MO
• Unidentified: Located two and one half miles north and three miles northeast of Hinton, MO
• Unidentified: Located three and one half miles northwest of Riggs, MO
• Sims: Located one mile south and one mile west from Riggs, MO

Ms. Ellsberry began genealogical publication in 1958, when she published her own family history, The Warrens and You. In researching her own family, she found that libraries needed additional information from cemetery records, wills, land records, probate records, census records, etc., to help people with their family history. Ellsberry decided that she wanted to help by publishing books that contained solid genealogical data. She taught school for thirty-four years, but on weekends and summer vacation, she would travel around to different courthouses and cemeteries, recording the information she found. She also corresponded with several researchers and helped them in their research. Ellsberry self-published more than three-hundred books, and most of them are available for sale.

Most of the compilation of these books took place between 1958 and into the 1970s, so the recorded information should include the cemetery and/or courthouse records of that time period.
