About Compiled Records of the Middlesex County, New Jersey Militia, 1791-1795

The lion's share of the volume consists of all of the rosters for the Middlesex County militia between the years 1791 and 1795. The rosters are arranged by militia company and give, first, the names of the officers, then the non-commissioned officers, and last the privates. In all, some four thousand persons are listed. Preceding the roster itself is a collection of more than a score of genealogical and biographical sketches of the Middlesex militia officer corps. Following the 1791-1795 rosters are additional rosters of some 2,000 Middlesex militiamen who served during the Revolution, as well as a number of tombstone inscriptions pertaining to Revolutionary War soldiers buried in cemeteries in Middlesex County. Still other rosters describe Middlesex veterans of the War of 1812, usually indicating the individual's rank, branch of service, and date of enlistment.
