About Prairie View Cemetery Inscriptions, Grangeville, Idaho

Prairie View Cemetery is located in Grangeville, Idaho County, Idaho, and has been in existence since about 1902. However, there was a previous burial place in Grangeville on China Hill that received burials from as early as the mid 1870's. When the new cemetery was created, the bodies were slowly exhumed over the years from the old cemetery to the newer site. Now the old cemetery is the site of Grangeville's Pioneer Park and city swimming pool. This database reflects burials from both cemeteries and covers a period of about 125 years (c.1870-1995) and contains approximately 4500 records. It includes all inscriptions and translations, if possible. It provides the deceased's name, birth date and death date. Occasionally, spouse's name, date of marriage date, and names of children are listed. In compiling this database inscriptions were read and sexton's records were consulted from the cemetery office.
