Names and services of commissioned officers and enlisted men of the towns Kittery and Eliot, Maine are listed in this database. The collection was compiled by Lieutenant Oliver P. Remick who was a member of both the Maine Historical Society and Genealogical Society as well as the vice president of the Maine Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. The preface to the records lists the boundaries of the three parishes of Kittery (the town of Eliot was a part of Kittery at the time). Additionally, histories of those regiments organized in Kittery are detailed including information about the first raised regiments, reorganizations, and commanding officers. Also included in the records are copies of commissions for various officers and officer and crew rolls for the Continental ships Ranger and Raleigh.

Badger Island off Kittery Maine was where the first U.S. Naval ships were built including the Raleigh launched in 1776 — the first to fly the American flag — and the Ranger, launched in 1777, both of whose crew lists are included in these records. The original book contained in this database is edited in places by hand making it advisable to check the validity of the listings. It is also worthwhile to note that at this time Maine was under the jurisdiction of Massachusetts.
